January 23, 2025: "Gossip Columns from Local Newspapers from Years Ago" presented by Carol Purgett (long-time RHS member)

Newspapers from Long AgoSome years ago, photocopies of the gossip columns from the years 1889 through 1928 in the Hartford Press and Washington County Democrat were donated to the Society. Carol took it upon herself to catalog these interesting tidbits. She found many errors along the way and did additional research. Through this research, Carol discovered the main focus of the papers was the community around the Messer/Mayer Mill.  Some of the early columns covered the Richfield area.

Come and hear how people learned what their neighbors were doing and other happenings in their crossroad community.
